26-02-2007 - Vietnam can save water using the Neighbour Search
In collaboration with scientists from the Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI), Gianluca Dorini uses the Neighbour Search (NS) methodology to identify optimal operation policies for the Hoa Binh, the largest reservoir in Vietnam.

Hoa Binh, which is the largest reservoir in Vietnam with a total storage capacity of 9.5 billion m3 and a live storage of 5.6 billion m3, has been operated in the Red river basin since 1990, its two main purposes being flood control and hydropower generation. In order to provide the DHI with optimal operation policies for planning purposes, the Hoa Binh problem was modelled as a Multi-Objective Stochastic Dynamic Program (MOSDP) and then solved using the Neighbour Search (NS). Please read on for the full case study.

The NS, which was developed by Gianluca Dorini in 2006 , is a revolutionary approach to the optimisation of MOSDP that enables the efficient identification of the full set of optimal trade-off solutions.

The NS methodology can be successfully applied to problems that are inherently stochastic, multi-objective and multi-stage including finance and dynamic options, telecommunications and asset management.
21-07-2008 - Diapason Consulting partners Aliante for Innovation and Technology Transfer
Aliante Partners is a consulting firm specialised in providing assistance to private equity operators on investment and divestment activities and it is the exclusive financial advisor of the investment funds of Aliante's holding, Aliante Equity Investments, AEI2 and ASBO.

Diapason Consulting provides Aliante Partners with decision support technologies for portfolio optimisation, active risk management and financial structuring of acquisition deals.

In addition, Diapason Consulting undertakes periodical technology assessment and reviews of portfolio companies in order to identify opportunities for improvement through the integration of technologies for demand forecast, production scheduling, rapid manufacturing, product-lifecycle management and integrated revenue management.

16-12-2008 - MAS Consulting delivers advanced optimisation capabilities to Powersim users through Diapason technologies
MAS Consulting is the official Powersim software reseller for Italy, specialising in the development of Powersim Studio simulation models for industrial applications and their integration into client server-architectures.  Powersim is an integrated environment for building and executing business simulation models.  By integrating Diapason's AIE optimisation technologies into OttiMAS, MAS Consulting can offer value-added capabilities to Powersim users.  OttiMAS is an Powersim engine SDK for multiobjective constraint optimisation.  OttiMAS enables the use of Powersim models to optimise thousands of decisions (categorical, numerical, discrete, continuous or any combination of these) for single or multiple objectives, accommodating complex feasibility constraints.
02-04-2007 - Service Science
Prof. Irene Ng, hosts at the Centre for Service Research the seminar: “Service Science: an Emerging Academic Discipline”.

Prof. Irene Ng (Diapason consultant) director of the
Centre for Service Research (School of Business & Economics, University of Exeter) hosts the seminar entitled “Service Science: an Emerging Academic Discipline”.

The service sector comprises the vast majority of the economies of the developed nations and is expected to provide the source of growth in the near future as the manufacturing sector continues to decline. Fuelling this growth is new service development, driven by technology, customer demand and the need to develop more structured approaches to providing services that are both more effective and efficient.

Service Science, drawing from several traditional academic disciplines including operations management, marketing, human resource management, information technology, and design innovation, is an emerging discipline that provides a structured approach to identifying, analyzing and solving business-related issues within the service sector.
27/29-08-2006 - Design of sensor networks for water infrastructure
Dr. Zoran Kapelan presents a new sensor networks design methodology for an international competition on the security of water distribution systems at the Water Distribution Systems Analysis Symposium, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

Security of critical infrastructures and in particular security of water distribution systems against voluntary contamination and terrorist attacks has been gaining increasing world-wide attention after the 9-11 events.
In the effort of fostering the development of advanced technologies to face these emerging threats, the best research centres and new-tech companies were invited to participate in the “Battle of the Water Sensor Networks (BWSN):A Design Challenge for Engineers and Algorithms”, an international competition dealing with the design of sensor networks for the early detection of contaminants on water distribution systems.

The methodology devised by Gianluca Dorini (Diapason, Director R&D) in collaboration with other research scientist[1], along with those developed by Gary B. Trachtman (PE Associate, McGuire/Malcolm Pirnie, Inc. Birmingham, Alabama,USA) and Berry et al. (Sandia National Laboratories, USA) outperformed the results obtained by the other competitors.
